We are all volunteers dedicated to ensuring healthy wild horses and burros on Public Lands for our future and generations to come.

What does AWHA do?

  • We work with federal agencies to build long-term proactive
    management plans.
  • We promote awareness by doing educational, public relations
    and fundraising events.
  • We help to facilitate adoptions.
  • We gentle and train wild horses to promote their adoptability.
  • We aid new adopters to achieve successful relationships with
    their new adoptees.
  • Our strongest current focus is on placing wild horses into public service programs, thereby, bringing increased awareness of their versatility, adaptability, and capabilities.
 
     

Do I have to have a wild horse to be a member?

No, caring about wild horses and burros is the only requirement.

Can I adopt a wild horse and board it?

Yes, the same facility requirements (minimum/maximum size, height and shelter) apply and there are some boarding facilities that welcome wild horse adopters.

How can I be of help?

We need assistance in numerous areas. We are looking for persons able to help in these areas:

  • Hospitality
  • Updates, Events, Issues
  • Newsletter (articles, photographs, stories, compiling and mailing),
  • Fundraising,
  • Accounting
  • Historian
  • Membership (drives & outreach)
  • Transportation (horses and/or people to Ridgecrest)
  • Fostering wild horses
  • Facility Checks
  • Acknowledgements of Appreciation
  • Standing Nominating

All Committee Members must be AWHA members in good standing.
Committees may be set up as a short-term Committee with a dedicated project on a specific timeframe such as; we can have an individual(s) be the Hospitality Committee for One General Meeting only, or the Committee may agree to a longer commitment such as the Hospitality Committee for the entire year. In all cases, expectations and timeframes shall be spelled out in writing and Committee Leads shall report to the AWHA Board or its designee.
